Back On Track: Tips for Busy Parents to Get Organized Again

Back on Track

We know—parenting is a full-time job (on top of your actual full-time job). And no matter how organized you once were, life has a way of knocking even the best systems off track. If you’ve been buried under backpacks, snacks, sports schedules, and laundry piles, you’re not alone—and it’s never too late to reset.

Here are a few tips to help you get back on track and reclaim some sanity.

  1. Start Small. Pick one area that’s been driving you nuts—maybe the kitchen counter, the mudroom, or your inbox. Small wins build momentum.
  2. Create Catch-All Zones. Kids are natural clutter factories. Set up bins by the door, hooks for backpacks, and designated places for shoes and lunch boxes.
  3. Make a Weekly Reset Routine. Sunday night resets can make Monday morning smoother. Spend 30 minutes planning meals, restocking snacks, and checking calendars.
  4. Use a Family Calendar. Digital or dry-erase, it doesn’t matter—as long as everyone can see what’s coming. This helps prevent overlap, forgotten appointments, and last-minute scrambles.
  5. Declutter Seasonally. When the school season changes, so should your stuff. Rotate out-of-season clothes, purge broken toys, and make room for what’s next.
